Couch Potato to 5K

Dave Kuehls’ Guide in 3 Months to Your First 5K Running

There aren’t lots of books that tackle specific lengths of running, such as full marathons, half marathons, 10K, etc. Most of the times, all of these types of distance running is condensed in one book. There are little known writers who dedicate an entire book to a specific field in distance running. That is why you may be a little bit surprised about this next book that this article will be reviewing.

It’s entitled “3 Months to Your First 5k” and from the title alone, you can see that it’s really focusing on a single topic, and that is 5K distance running. Not only that, in the title itself, you are given a certain direction as to when and how you will tackle the training: for three months you will rigorously train to attend your first ever 5K distance running event. From the front cover itself it entices even the most dedicated couch potato to start training because it gives concrete details as to how it shall be done.

Dave Kuehls, the author of 3 Months to Your First 5k, will act as your own trainer for the entire three months of your training. In the book he emphasizes that beginners will benefit from this book more than others because his running schedules were made with the newbie runner in mind. He starts with discussing the physical benefits of running, and not only the cookie-cutter kind of benefits, but the real, accurate descriptions of how your body will transform after three months of training. As for the psychological benefits, Dave also offers a little insight in this: how your self-esteem can be raised to newer heights, how you can improve your motivation and much more.

Standard training tips are offered in this book, such as the proper clothing, to right food to eat, how to fit your lifestyle to distance running. More importantly, it outlines what you must do during the day of the race in full clarity, something that not many books do, as they feel like the training is enough. It also gives you the promise of a future after the 5K, in case you want to run longer matches.

If you are ready to go from couch pototo to 5K, 3 Months to Your First 5k is a great place to start.
